History

Belleville Christian School opened its doors to the first group of students in 1964, but the planning process started in 1958. Through the prayerful work of a diligent group of Dutch immigrants, including the dedicated leadership of Andries (Andy) Jongenotter, whom John Parrott personally sponsored to come to Canada, the school was able to open in a relatively short amount of time.

The school is operated by the Belleville District Christian School Society, which is composed mainly of school parents, grandparents, and others in the Christian community that are passionate about providing Christ-focused, high quality education.

The original vision for the school was to be a learning centre for all Christian families in the Belleville area. “It is our duty as Christians to have a school where our children receive a God-centred education…to teach them to glorify God in all things…to educate them on the basis of God’s word…and to equip them to love, serve, and bless their community.”

The school opened with just two classrooms and a small office area. It grew steadily over the next twenty years and several additions, including six additional classrooms and a small gymnasium / multi-purpose room, were made to the original building to accommodate growth.

Over the years, the school has been active in the community, partnering with local churches, charities, and community organizations to love, serve, and bless others while developing student leadership abilities.
