Belong, Discover, Worship

Imagine your child going to school each day where your child knows all of the students, teachers, and staff in the school, and where everyone knows them, too. Imagine a place where your child will read, experience, and wonder alongside kids of a range of ages.
Imagine a place where your child can enjoy learning, play outside, and sing praises to God.

It is our ongoing goal to provide students with a strong academic program in order to best prepare them for secondary school and beyond. Our teachers have high expectations for students and provide them with the instruction, guidance and support to meet those expectations. Our small class sizes ensure that all students remain actively involved in lessons and have the opportunity to participate, answer questions, and share ideas during class discussions.

Social- Emotional Learning

Responsive Classroom: The focus of Responsive Classroom is bringing social/emotional learning and awareness alongside the academic learning done throughout a school day. It prioritizes establishing routines and behaviours that will bring order and reliability to the school day. There also is a focus on building a positive community – creating a culture of welcome, inclusion, safety, and acceptance in the classroom where students feel comfortable taking risks.

The Zones of Regulation: The Zones of Regulation is a complete social-emotional learning curriculum, created to teach children self-regulation and emotional control.

Teaching for Transformation

We are a certified Teaching for Transformation (TfT) school. TfT is a very intentional multi-disciplinary philosophy and framework that rose out of a deep hope that all Christian Schools could be places where everyone would discover their place as participants in God’s epic story. An important aspect of TfT is the “FLeX” project. Students are challenged to respond with their knowledge in Project-Based Learning endeavours that focus on practical application and service in the broader community.

Bible and Chapel

As one of the core values of QRCS states: “We teach the truth of the Bible, through faithful study, critical thinking, and compassionate service.” Bible is a “class” at our school, but it is so much more than that. The biblical truths found in scripture are woven through our studies, whether it is Bible, science, art, music (etc) class.

Language Arts- The Science of Reading (and more!)

“The Science of Reading” (SoR) is a body of research that incorporates insights and research from disciplines that include developmental psychology, educational psychology, cognitive science, and cognitive neuroscience. In short, the science of reading has demonstrated the methods that best help children learn to read, from the earliest steps in spoken language to being able to successfully decode unfamiliar words. One of the key elements in successful reading instruction identified in reading research is the role that phonics instruction plays in learning to read. The scientific consensus is that teaching phonics systematically, explicitly, and cumulatively is key to successful reading instruction.” – Taken from Really Great Reading: https://www.reallygreatreading.com/what-is-the-science-of-reading-and-phonics

We use the Reading Horizons SoR curriculum from JK- gr. 4.

Additionally, in our Gr. 1-6 program , there is a significant focus on developing a love for and skills in spelling, grammar, writing and reading.

Math, Science and Social Studies

We use a variety of curriculum in order to create authentic learning experiences that show God’s creative design.

Art, Music, Phys Ed

Schoolwork in these areas provide students opportunities to use their gifts and talents to use creative expression.

French

French education begins in JK with exposure to French songs and introductory phrases. The goal of the JK- gr. 6 program is to grow a curiosity for French. We work on building skills in speaking, listening, writing, and reading french.
